All Vista versions, from Basic to Ultimate, come with tools that help you track any error that may occur with your software and hardware, but not many users are aware of this. The System Health Report is one of the many tools available for diagnose and troubleshooting purposes. As the name implies, the Health Report will generate a report that will indicate what is preventing Windows Vista from running smoothly or safely and will also give you suggestions on how to fix any errors.
To generate a full System Health Report, follow the steps bellow (I recommend you generate such a report no matter how well your PC runs):
- Press the Start Orb.
- Open Control Panel
- Choose System and Maintenance
- Pick Performance Information and Tools
- Now click the Advanced Tools link in the left pane
- Select Generate a System Health Report(at the bottom) and wait for the process to complete.
The created report lists the status of all critical components inside your PC and if a problem is detected, possible solutions are displayed.
For testing purposes, I've disabled my antispyware program and pluged in my 5 years old Logitech Camera (which I don't have a driver for). In Pic 1.1 bellow you can see my Health Report (note that I get notified of the two problems).
